Alarming Recording Shows Point Law Enforcement Are Stabbed in Unexpected Assault
A police sergeant who rushed to the help of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knifeman has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a weapon to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the officers and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a traffic accident in that location in summer 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.
"Policeman stabbed," the constable could be heard saying over his radio.
Bodyworn and dashboard camera recording released by the police department showed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a head covered, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife outstretched.
He collided with the policeman who stumbled and went down to the street, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the pavement despite being continually attacked with the blade.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a clear shot, ending the confrontation to an finish.
Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "I need something on my throat now, I got knifed in the neck."
Sgt Ansell sustained two deep cuts to his throat and more wounds to his limbs and body, whereas Sgt Foster suffered cut injuries.
The department said Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to control his colleague's bleeding prior to medical personnel reached the scene.
The latest honor comes after the law enforcement team received internal Courage Honors in late 2023 and the police federation award from the area Police Federation in April 2024.
They additionally received a Area Bravery Award in July 2024.
"The actions of the entire team in the end protected themselves and ensured no bystanders experienced any wounds."
Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, per authorities.
